AERODYNAMIC. ACCESSIBLE. AWESOME.

Founded by a pair of passionate engineers and entrepreneurs nestled in the mountains of Colorado, Wakeshield was born from a shared love of adventure and innovation. Drawing from our own experiences with EV's, truck life, and manufacturing, we set out to create a solution that combines practicality with performance for truck enthusiasts like ourselves. Our topper shell is the result of countless hours of design and testing, aimed at providing fellow adventurers with a reliable and versatile storage solution for their Rivian R1T trucks without sacrificing precious range.

WINDOWS AND VIEW

The Wakeshield has three polycarbonate windows. The rear one (described briefly above) along with the forward ("cab") window allow for continued use of the rear-view mirror, albeit with a slightly lower field of view because of the nature of the tapered shape of the shell. There is still enough view to see cars directly behind you and for seeing pedestrians walking by. From the rear passenger seats in the truck, the bed contents can be easily viewed looking rearward. In addition to these windows, there is also a small viewing port for the rear bed camera. With the Wakeshield in the lifted position (when you are most likely to need a visual on your cargo) the entire bed can be easily viewed via the bed cam. When the Wakeshield is in the low position there may be some glare during daylight hours making 100% of the contents not quite visible. We are working on an easy to implement solution for the customer who really desires to see more in the daytime. At nighttime with the bed lights on, all is visible.

SECURE STORAGE

The Wakeshield topper attaches to the bed rail and allows for the transport of much taller items than the stock tonneau permits (such as tall coolers or large pieces of luggage). With two key-locking cams on either side of the rear window, your gear will be secure as long as the vehicle itself is locked (an unlocked tailgate would still give access...).  The interior shape allows for 2-3 foot items to be stored securely (note the tapered portion means taller items in front).

OPERATION

Turning the unlocked camlocks up by 45 degrees (CW for left lock, CCW for right lock) will unlock the main shell mechanism and allow the topper to be lifted/hinged upwards to its high position. Gas struts will assist with the lift. Turning the camlocks further up to the 90 degree position will unlock the window itself allowing it to be swung away from the user into the ceiling of the Wakeshield shell. At the top of the swing, the window bumpers will stop the motion and at this point turning the camlocks back to their 0 degree (horizontal) setting will lock them into an upward stored position for easier in and out access to bed items. Note: the shell CAN be driven in the upright position for hauling larger loads (or dogs!).

AERODYNAMICS AND RANGE

The Wakeshield topper was designed with aerodynamics in mind. One core design requirement was to increase range and efficiency. Extensive highway testing revealed a drag coefficient improvement of ~10% and a corresponding improvement in efficiency (mi/kwhr) of ~5.6%.  In addition to the above gains, the Wakeshield maintains the quiet cab of your factory vehicle.

ACCESS GRANTED

A common design with most truck toppers is to sit on top of the truck bed rail, and the Wakeshield is no different. However, there's a problem: the gear tunnel and tailgate buttons become covered by the topper itself. For this we have added self-closing access ports at each of the button locations - one for each gear tunnel button and one for the tailgate (and tonneau) button. The ports are large enough to get to the buttons without allowing access to stored bed items.

TRACTION BOARD MOUNTING

The Wakeshield topper can store two 36 - 48 inch long traction boards along it's interior ceiling. While most traction board storage occurs on the outside of vehicles, disrupting the aerodynamics; the Wakeshield's unique storage location keeps the boards out-of-the-way without impacting range efficiency.

GRAB YOUR GEAR

Crafted from aerospace grade aluminum, the included Gear Hook stores along the interior frame of the Wakeshield topper and makes grabbing the gear in the back of your bed a snap!

TRAVEL YOUR WAY

Wakeshield can be driven with just the rear window locked in up position or with the entire topper raised to its open position. Perfect for carrying tall loads and four-legged friends. NOTE: Front and sides of Wakeshield are not airtight in either configuration, including completely closed and locked.

UNIQUE DESIGN

The Wakeshield truck topper is specifically designed to fit the bed of the Rivian R1T super truck. The shape is a compromise of aerodynamic efficiency, storage, and function. The main shell "hides" in the wake of the truck cab and is contoured to work with the truck's spoiler outlets and provide additional pressure recovery for enhanced aerodynamics. The unique lifting action gives users greater access to bed sides than traditional toppers as well as giving an option for carrying taller loads. The rear window can be folded inward and stored up along the shell ceiling if even greater dimension is required.

BED ATTACHMENT

The Wakeshield topper is designed to sit on top of the bed rail edge, fitting up against the bed's cabin-side wall. The topper is locked down by four cam-over style hooks that when tightened pull the topper downwards (clamping) and forwards into the bed rail. This design provides more than adequate mounting force for highway winds, rough trails, and the insane acceleration the R1T is capable of achieving. Also, this attachment system can be installed/removed in just a minute or two - meaning two people can remove the topper quickly if much larger loading heights are required, making it the most versatile topper on the market!
